Workplace Inclusion Charter and Employer Supports

Build a Stronger Workforce. Build a More Inclusive Belleville.

Diversity enriches our community, strengthens our economy and positions our city for long-term success. Studies show that employers who attract, develop and retain talent from diverse backgrounds drive innovation, productivity and economic growth. Inclusive workplaces help ensure that everyone in our City feels welcomed, valued and at home.

In March 2023, the City of Belleville became the city’s first workplace to adopt the Workplace Inclusion Charter, committing to annual inclusion plans and continuous improvement within the corporation.

The purpose of the Charter is to ignite action that begins in the workplace and extends throughout the community. It is a key economic component of the City of Belleville’s labour attraction and retention strategy supporting employers to create welcoming environments that attract and retain talent.

Inclusion Strengthens Business

Belleville’s diversity is one of our greatest economic strengths.  By committing to principles of Equity Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace, employers strengthen their workplace culture, encourage creativity and innovative solutions and contribute to a more equitable and vibrant community where business can thrive.

The City of Belleville Workplace Inclusion Charter supports employers in taking meaningful, achievable steps towards equity and inclusion in their workplaces.

The Workplace Inclusion Charter (WIC) is a voluntary, self-directed initiative that helps employers create safe, respectful, and inclusive workplaces.

Developed through a partnership between Belleville Economic Development, City of Belleville and the Quinte Local Immigration Partnership (QLIP) and supported by Kingston Employment and Youth Services (KEYS), the Charter helps organizations advance equitable employment practices for:

  • Newcomers
  • Racialized and visible minority communities
  • People with disabilities
  • Indigenous peoples
  • Francophones and linguistic minorities
  • Women
  • Youth
  • Older workers
  • LGBTQ2S+ communities

Through practical tools and measurable actions, employers can take meaningful steps toward workplace inclusion while strengthening their teams and business performance.

Attract Talent and Enhance Employee Engagement: Inclusive organizations build strong workplace cultures that attract talented workers and increase employee participation.

Strengthen Retention: Prioritizing inclusion leads to higher retention rates and job satisfaction for employees.
